What Can I Expect at My First Appointment?
Your first fitting is an opportunity to ask questions, learn about your options, and find products that feel comfortable and right for you. At Dianne’s Mastectomy, we take the time to make your experience personal, private, and unhurried.
Why Do I Need an Appointment?
Appointments are required so we can provide each client with dedicated time, privacy, and personalized care. Your appointment is focused entirely on you, with no interruptions and no need to feel rushed.
You’ll meet one-on-one with an experienced, certified fitter who will guide you through the fitting process, answer your questions, and ensure your breast prostheses and/or bras fit properly and comfortably. We encourage you to ask questions and take the time you need to feel comfortable and confident with your choices.
There is no fee for your appointment or for our fitter’s expertise.
Because we carry our products in stock, you can select your items and take them home the same day. You can even wear your new items home if you wish.
What Can I Expect During My Appointment?
Dianne’s Mastectomy operates from a private office setting rather than a traditional storefront. This allows us to provide a quiet, comfortable environment where your appointment time is entirely dedicated to you.
Your certified fitter will begin by talking with you about your needs, your surgery, and what you are looking for. We’ll explain each step before beginning and answer any questions you may have along the way.
Your fitting may include taking measurements, assessing your breast shape and symmetry, and trying different breast prostheses and/or mastectomy bras to find the right fit and level of comfort for you.
The fitting itself is professional and respectful. We’ll work at your pace and make sure you understand your options before making any decisions.
Please plan to remove your top during your fitting. For your comfort and convenience, we recommend wearing a two-piece outfit rather than a dress.
Once your fitting is complete, you can choose the items that work best for you and take them home the same day. There is never pressure to purchase.
What Should I Bring or Prepare For?
A little preparation can help make your first fitting more comfortable and productive.
Wear a two-piece outfit
Please wear a top and bottom rather than a dress, as you will need to remove your top to be fitted for a breast prosthesis and/or mastectomy bras.
Wear a plain shirt, if possible
Solid colours make it easier to assess the shape and overall symmetry of a bra under clothing. Patterns, textures, and bulky sweaters can make this more difficult. Wondering if your new bra will show under white? Wear a white top so you can test this with your own clothing.
Avoid creams or oils on your chest
Please avoid applying creams, lotions, or oils to your chest on the day of your fitting. You’ll be trying on bras, and clean, dry skin is best.
Bring your health card
We’ll need your health card to complete the paperwork for your government reimbursement.
Allow 1.5 hours
Your first appointment takes time because we want to make sure you receive a thorough fitting and have plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Please allow approximately 1.5 hours.
Check your insurance coverage, if applicable
If you have private insurance, we recommend contacting your insurance company before your appointment to confirm your coverage. Knowing your coverage in advance can help you understand what you will pay at the time of purchase and what you may be reimbursed for. We can also provide a written estimate that you can submit to your provider before your appointment to confirm your coverage in writing.
Can I Bring Someone With Me for Support?
Of course. We understand that having someone you trust with you can make your first fitting feel more comfortable.
You are welcome to bring one person with you into your appointment. If you’d prefer to have someone nearby for support without having them in the fitting room, we also have a waiting room where they can wait for you.
For your privacy and comfort, we ask that you bring no more than one additional person into your appointment, as the fitting room can become crowded with more than one guest.
Most Importantly, Come as You Are
There is no need to know exactly what you need before your first appointment. That’s what we’re here for.
We’ll guide you through the process, explain your options, answer your questions, and help you find products that provide the comfort, fit, and confidence you’re looking for.
You don’t have to navigate this part alone. We’re here to help.
How Soon Can I Have My New Items?
We carry our products in stock, so you can select your items and take them home the same day as your appointment. You can even wear your new items home if you’d like!
Is Your Location Wheelchair Accessible?
Yes. We want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome at Dianne’s Mastectomy.
- Our front entrance is flat and does not have a step.
- Our washroom is large enough to accommodate a power wheelchair.
- There is one step once inside our office. We have a portable ramp available to provide access over this step.
If you require the ramp, please let us know ahead of your appointment so we can securely set it up and have it ready for you when you arrive.
If you have any accessibility questions or specific needs, please contact us before your appointment. We’re happy to help make your visit as comfortable and accessible as possible.
