Post-Mastectomy: When you first arrive home after surgery, it may be hard to sleep. Finding a comfortable sleeping position may be difficult, particularly when you still have drain tubes. Many women choose to sleep in a recliner chair the first few nights or week. This is especially true if you’ve had a bilateral mastectomy as it be sore sleeping on either of your sides. You may find it best to lay on your back, but flat on your back with a regular pillow may put an undue strain on your chest causing extra pain. Legs, Back and Posture: There are two postures of sleep recommended by doctors and chiropractors alike. Orthocush is uniquely designed to ensure maximum comfort while maintaining these positions. The first recommended position is basically the spine position, lying flat on your back parallel to the surface. The knees are bent forming approximately a 90 degree angle between the upper and lower parts of the legs. Othrocush is placed under the knees to maintain this angle while sleeping. In this position the lumbar curve is eliminated. With the muscles and spinal column flattened to the surface, they receive the necessary support that will help to eliminate the pain and stiffness (early morning) felt in the lower back.

The second recommended posture of sleep is laying on either side of the body in the right or left lateral position. With the knees bent, Orthocush is placed between the legs. This keeps the upper part of the legs parallel to the hips which will help to minimize any pressure on the muscles and spinal column in the lumbar region.
